What Personal Data We Collect and Why We Collect It
Comments
When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.
Media
If you upload images to the web site, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the web site can download and extract any location data from images on the web site.
Contact Forms
We collect your submitted information through our contact forms. This may include things like your first name, last name, email address, and more. This information is not stored on our server, and will only be sent to our server to transmit data by the mail system. We will not use this data in any way other than explicitly stated on the form and prompt for your consent to do so.
In order to cut down on spam and protect our inbox, we use Google’s ReCAPTCHA v3 in order to identify bots and spam submissions. The use of the contact form is subject to the Google Privacy Policy and the Google Terms of Use.
Cookies
If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and web site in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.
If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.
When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.
Some plugins on our site use cookies to function properly. The cookies that are created do not collect any personal data about you. They strictly function to provide a better experience on the site in sign-up forms and our cookie disclosure bar.
Embedded Content From Other Web Sites
Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other web sites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other web site.
These web sites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that web site.
Analytics
We use a tool called “Google Analytics” to collect information about use of this site. Google Analytics collects information such as how often users visit this site, what pages they visit when they do so, and what other sites they used prior to coming to this site. We use the information we get from Google Analytics only to improve this site. Google Analytics collects only the IP address assigned to you on the date you visit this site, rather than your name or other identifying information. We do not combine the information collected through the use of Google Analytics with personally identifiable information. Although Google Analytics plants a permanent cookie on your web browser to identify you as a unique user the next time you visit this site, the cookie cannot be used by anyone but Google. Google’s ability to use and share information collected by Google Analytics about your visits to this site is restricted by the Google Analytics Terms of Use and the Google Privacy Policy. You can prevent Google Analytics from recognizing you on return visits to this site by disabling cookies on your browser, (a guide to do so can be found at Wiki-how) or by installing Google’s add-on for your browser, Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
Who We Share Your Data With
We do not share any of your private data with any third-party advertisers or marketers.
How Long We Retain Your Data
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely unless otherwise stated. This is to recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue. This is basic WordPress functionality to provide a streamlined user experience for commenting.
For users that register on our web site (if applicable), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Web site administrators can also see and edit that information.
Google Analytics data is stored for 26 months, or until web site administrators determine such historical records irrelevant for improving our web site experience.
What Rights You Have Over Your Data
If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
Where We Send Your Data
This site also uses Akismet to reduce comment spam. If you leave a comment on our blog, we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string. Visit their parent site, Automattic, to learn how your comment data is processed by Akismet for redundant spam identification.
